29 August 2014: Message from Lord Kitchener

On this day in 1914 Lord Kitchener’s message to the Commander-in-Chief of the British Army was published for the information of the troops. The 1st Battalion The Black Watch were part of the 1st Division, one of the units to whom this message was sent. The “severe attacks” referred to would have included the battle of Mons on 23 August 1914.
