Object Advent Calendar Day 25

Today we wish you all a very Merry Christmas! To take part in today’s festivities, we have put together a special Advent Calendar Object – our current exhibition Seasonal Greetings!

The Holiday Season is a time when families get together. A soldier’s life though, especially until recent times, often involved long periods of separation from their families. This sense of being apart was never more poignant, or painful, than at Christmas. This exhibition shows, through a variety of objects and images, the ways in which both families and soldiers coped with being separated during this time.

All the objects in this exhibition served to remind the fighting soldier that they were not alone at Christmas, and that the thoughts of their family were with them. Equally it gave them an understanding of what they were fighting for.

The exhibition is on display in The Black Watch Castle and Museum until the end of February 2016.
